Spirit Filled Worship

Posted on December 22, 2008

Sermon preached by Christopher Adams, December 14, 2008:

Communion by Jonathan Pedican:

“Set the lamp on a stand, so high it will fill us with the spirit of fire, and worship!”

Human beings are genetically designed to need something to lead them. Whether it be their own desire for advancement in life and their strong will, or someone pushing them and mentoring them to live a stronger, more filling, life. God designed us to need something to influence our lives, and make us live them. God also gave us something by which we can be influenced. He gave us His spirit.

His enthusiasm, his joys, his hates, his desires, his malcontents. His spirit, his essence, has been offered to us. We have the opportunity to be bred by the spirit of the being that created the universe! By a mind that created something so incredibly ludicrous like the Platypus, and so incredibly complex as a solar system. We are created by that spirit of creativity. For those of us who are painters, we see this driving force in our life, this spirit that gives us this desire.

Whatever it is that drives you towards righteousness, it was given by the God who put it into practice first. And what you do with that drive makes all the difference. Where you are lead by that desire affects what you become. Who you are is who you allow the Spirit of God to transform you into–it even works in that capacity too! It leads us to live lives worthy of the calling that God has spoken! We’ve been given a drive… and that same spirit also lets us know what He wants us to do with it!

The spirit of God is amazing! Chris did an awesome job, through the Spirit, studying through the scriptures and sharing the heart of the Spirit of Worship. So lets give our hearts this week to listening to the Spirit of God, as it leads us powerfully!

Heart Filled Worship

Posted on

Sermon and Communion preached by Christopher Adams, December 7, 2008, for the Christmas Service:

“Make room for God in your heart!”

The heart is the most important part of a human, aside the brain. The heart, is where we feel sorrow… Guilt… Anger, and frustration. It’s in our hearts that we feel emotional pain. Our hearts skip a beat when the one we love walks by, or glances at us. It gets stuck in our throat when we want to say something, and it testifies against us when we say something false. Our heart is important. What we put into our heart has to be just as important.

God has given us room in his heart, room enough for the entire human race, from the beginning of man. He has given man a special place in his heart, a place of love and compassion. He loves us so much, that he gave us his image, and then gave us reign over the earth. Yet he does not clump us together into one group, no… he has individual room, in his vastly infinite heart of love, for everyone.

Is it so much to ask that we have the same room for God?

We are designed to give our hearts. We are designed to fill our hearts with something. Whether it be anger, malice, rage, happiness, joy, glee, or even material things like cars, money, and clothing. Yes, we all fill our hearts with something, because we all have a hole in our hearts… A hole that can not be filled by any one thing that we can own or feel. We have an infinite hole, that needs to be filled by an infinite thing… God. Whether we admit it as a whole, or as an individual, our lives are missing something without God.

God’s is missing something without us.

Our God is a Consuming Fire

Posted on December 7, 2008

Sermon preached by Christopher Adams, November 30th, 2008:

Communion by David Jefferson:

“Let the fire of the Spirit reign in our bodies!!!”

As the Israelites gazed up at the Mountain of the Lord, what did they see? They saw lightning, peals of thunder, and the shaking of the earth! They saw the mountain of the Lord consumed in fire, with the zealous fire of God. This is the same lightning, the same fire, that kept the Israelites from going up onto the mountain and being with God. The Israelites were given commands from Moses, one who spoke to God face-to-face. Yet, if even one Israelite, no, even one animal touched that holy mountain, they were to be stoned until death… the mountain was for God.

Some believe that this God, who covered a mountain in fire and lightning, and whose presence shook the very foundations of the earth, was a god that existed only in the Old Testament: a god who rescued and exalted Joseph from jail and almost certain death; a god who beset plagues on the enemies of the great king David. It would be impossible that this Old Testament rescuer of men would be the same loving, caring, forgiving, merciful god of the New Testament, right?! Oh, how very wrong anyone would be to think such a thing!

Chris’ latest sermon in our series on Worship, helps us to understand that our God IS a consuming FIRE. He is the same God who was, is and will forever be . . . from everlasting to everlasting.
